Congress will hear from several physicians' groups and several other health-related associations this week, along with advocates for libraries and electric co-ops.
Fly-ins can be physically taxing. The American Association of Naturopathic Physicians advised its members to wear "comfortable shoes for pounding the marble floors" during Hill visits today.
Doctors with the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Society of Anesthesiologists will also be holding conferences this week. Other health-sector groups include the American Hospital Association, the National Association of Rehabilitation Providers and Agencies, and the National Adult Day Services Association.
Three groups will team up for a day of advocacy on cancer research Thursday: the American Association for Cancer Research, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the Association of American Cancer Institutes.
Members of the American Library Association will take on some hot-button issues, advocating for "net neutrality" protection and strengthening privacy laws. They are also seeking more funding for school libraries.
Always one of the bigger fly-ins, the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association will bring about 2,000 people to Washington, D.C., for its legislative conference. CEOs, co-op members and staff will hold meetings on Capitol Hill and with federal agencies on the EPA's plan to cut carbon emissions from power plants, coal ash and other issues. They also plan to thank lawmakers for supporting the Energy Efficiency Improvement Act, signed by President Barack Obama April 30.
Also in Washington: Independent Electrical Contractors and the Electronic Security Association.
Other fly-ins this week: Association for Advanced Life Underwriting, Property Casualty Insurers Association of America and the National Association of Private Special Education Centers.
